Keeping up its tradition, King Edward Debating Society will be holding the 25th iteration of the intracollegiate debating competition this August. Following are the dates; Intra Parli Debates: 24th August to 26th August Intra Declamations: 27th August Regarding *Intra Parliamentary Debates* ; Any student from 1st year to 4th year is allowed to participate in the competition. There will be separate competitions for Urdu and English as per the usual precedence. The Format for Urdu Parliamentary will be Asians. And the format for English Parliamentary will be British. In order to ensure a more balanced and more competitive contest, there are certain rules that are to be followed while forming the teams. *_For English (British):_* -Any experienced/senior 4th year or 3rd year speaker can only team up with a first year student. -2nd year speakers can pair amongst themselves or with 1st year speakers. -1st year speakers can follow the above pairing rules, or team up amongst themselves. *_For Urdu (Asians):_* - A senior 4th year speaker must speak with two 1st year speakers. -A senior 3rd year speaker must speak with one 2nd year and at least one 1st year speaker in team. -2nd year speakers can pair amongst themselves or with 1st year speakers. -1st year speakers can follow the above pairing rules, or team up amongst themselves. Regarding *_Intra Declamations;_* •The competition will be bilingual Declamation competition with Urdu, English and Punjabi Categories. •The competition will consist of only one round. •The language genres will be; English Serious English Humorous Urdu Serious Urdu Humorous Punjabi •Prizes will be awarded to First, Second and Third position holders in Urdu and English categories respectively. There will be a separate award for the best speaker in Punjabi. •The time limit for the speech will be 4-6 minutes. First bell will be rung after 4 minutes and Second bell after 6 minutes. Speakers failing to follow the time-limit will be penalized by judges. •Paper reading is strictly prohibited. •Speakers will be judged on the basis of content of their speech, proficiency of language, delivery of speech and the audience response. •Speakers will not be allowed to make objectionable, vulgar and indecent remarks against any religion, caste, creed, political party or personage. •Judges can disqualify participant over the violation of any rule. •The decision of judges will be final. Any speaker found disrespecting a judge will be disqualified. •KEDS reserves the right to take disciplinary action and revoke the membership of any individual.
