A milestone for Pakistani Theatre Ajoka Celebrates its 4-decades of impactful contribution to socially-meaningful theatre with a landmark 6-day theatre bonanza. Four plays representing four decades of Ajoka’s resilient existence include “Jaloos”, first-ever Ajoka play; “Teesri Dastak”, first performance in 1991, “Bulha” ever-green iconic Sufi play, first performed in 2001 and the international masterpiece “Dara”, first performed in 2010 and produced by National Theatre London in 2015. These plays not only various stages of the Ajoka stage, but also touching major themes such as political struggle, ideological exploitation, sufi stories of peace and the classical story of Shakespearian dimensions, called “a play for the moment and for the century” by London’s Telegraph. These plays are a celebration of Pakistani’s rich theatrical heritage and amazing and inspiring repertois of dramatic stories. The festival is also a tribute to the founders of Ajoka, especially the legendry Madeeha Gauhar, who passed away 6 years ago but is still alive in the plays she directed and high standards of quality theatre she set.
