As everyone knows that Mirza's era was a time of social and cultural upheaval, the old Mughal & Oudhi values were fading and the British rulers were slowly infiltrating in every layer of lives of common people. This piece of art depicts that era of ruthlessness and selfishness. The story of the play spans from the partition of India, liberation from the British to our present day society. The plot of the play not only shows the conflict of father and son due to Umrao, but actually it depicts the dark side of conflict b/w materialism and idealism, a clash b/w capitalism and socialism. Infect this piece will be a starting point of the debate that what we all are dreaming off and what actually we are. It’s always difficult to show the time lapse on stage but in this play this is represented artistically through the journey of dance and music. Although this musical is an entertaining piece yet people with keen sensibilities can also find a social message in it. The most interesting thing is that if you don't immediately hate the social status of its characters, then these characters will appear to you as every day human beings, who, like us, are accidentally bound by the chains of time. Sometimes they win the struggles and sometimes lose. While going through these tragedies day and night, the characters of this play have to compromise with these tragedies painfully from time to time. You can feel their struggle. If you can slow yourself from today’s fast life, you will fall in love with the texture of the plot, the choice of words and the sweetness of the Urdu poetry
