August 2023 saw an attack on Christian churches and houses in Jaranwala tehsil of Faisalabad as a result of Blasphemy allegations. Not the first, and if things continue the way they are, not the last of such incidents, it showcases the deep fissures in Pakistani state and society which is chipping away the country from within. About the Speaker: Dr. Yaqoob Khan Bangash is Associate Professor at the Department of Governance and Global Studies and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, IT University Lahore. He has published widely on Pakistan, with a focus on state building, religious and ethnic minorities, and the rule of law. He has a PhD in History from Oxford, postdoc from Harvard and has held Fulbright and Chevening Fellowships, among others.
